Growth Hormone Releasing Factors

The key to it all is the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is the "Master Conductor" of all the endocrine glands. The thyroid, Para-thyroid, adrenals, pituitary, spleen, etc., are all directly influenced by it. It works by releasing "Growth Hormone Releasing Factors" which then signal the pituitary glad to release actual GH. Now here's where it gets a little tricky so please pay careful attention. Once GH is released into the blood stream by the pituitary, it then hits the liver where it's converted to what is called IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor)... and it's actually IGF-1 that does all the splitting and regenerating of the cells.

As we mature physically and reach our full height, the hypothalamus says, "Hey, you're as big as you're going to get" and all those growth hormone releasing factors that used to spew out of it like Ms. St. Helens...now trickle out instead. This means much less OH is produced which means much less IGF-1 is produced... which means much less cell splitting is going on ! Unfortunately, this means your body is dying faster than it's getting younger... and you want just the opposite to happen!

Growth Hormones Effect on the Immune System

Another very, very important function of growth hormone is its effect on the immune system. Primarily growth hormone stimulates the growth and regeneration of the thymus glad. The thymus glad is crucial to living a healthy "sick free" life because the bigger the thymus...the more white blood cells you'll have to fight infections.

Also, growth hormone has a powerful effect on the regeneration of connective tissue, bones and joints. These various connective tissues are made up of proteins called glycoaminoglycans which cushion the joints and make tendons strong, yet flexible. Of course glycoaminoglycans are synthesized in the body, being formed by long chains of amino acids that come from dietary protein. But what growth hormone does is greatly increase the synthesis, or internal manufacturing of glycoaminoglycans so they will rebuild all of your connective tissues.

Heart Attack! Are YOU at risk? 330,000 people died last year before even reaching the hospital. Coronary Heart Disease would be a lot easier to cure if we could trace it to a virus or a single source. However, we're dealing with a disease that involves more than 250 risk factors, high cholesterol being one of the top factors. A recent study revealed that a 1% rise in your cholesterol level could produce a 3% rise in heart attack risk! Education and lifestyle modification is key in eliminating this devastating disease.

Exercise and a healthy diet are our first line of defense. Vitamins and nutritional supplements can provide the extra boost we need to win this war. Here are just a few of the vital supplements included in CNA's Healthy Heart:

Policosanol: 10-30mg/day
Policosanol is a unique natural product derived from sugar cane wax and beeswax It has proved effective at reducing cholesterol levels, and for some individuals may be a reasonable natural alternative to the commonly prescribed "statin type" cholesterol-lowering drugs. Studies show that policosanol not only reduced cholesterol levels, but also had positive effects on other cardiac risk factors, through actions such as reducing platelet "clumping" and inhibiting the development of atherosclerosis.

Odorless Garlic: 1000mo/day/2x day
Garlic has a long reputation as being a medicinal herb. Studies illustrate that it provides important infection-fighting properties while also offering cardiovascular protective benefits. Some of those benefits include: helping maintain healthy cholesterol levels, reduction of hypertension, anti-bacterial and immune support functions.

Vitamin C: 2000mg/day/Morning
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that is necessary for normal growth and development. It is required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It is necessary to form collagen, an important protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is essential for the healing of wounds, and for the repair and maintenance of cartilage, banes, and teeth. Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants. Antioxidants are nutrients that block some of the damage caused by free radicals, which are by-products that result when our bodies transform food into energy. The build up of these by-products over time is largely responsible for the aging process and can contribute to the development of various health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and a host of inflammatory conditions like arthritis.

How GH Actually Works!

As its name implies, Growth Hormone makes you "grow"..thus it has a growing and regenerative effect on every last cell in your body. Muscle cells, brain cells, skin cells, the cells in every organ...all have receptors to their nucleus to receive growth hormone. As you can imagine, during your "sprouting years" as a teenager (between 13-19 years old), your growth hormone levels were the highest they will ever be. This is why you could eat anything you wanted and not get fat, work out only 1/2 strength and still get strong and get by on four hours of sleep and still wake up rested.

Of course when you were this young, you had no idea what was causing all of these good things to happen, you just thought it would go on forever. But at around 22-25, you can't get away with eating at Mc Donald's twice a day, you have to work out harder to get a "pump"... and 7:00am rolls around a lot sooner than it once did. This is because by age 21, growth hormone levels start to steadily decline each decade so by the time you're in your 40's... you're producing less than half the growth hormone you did in your 20's.

OK...here's how it works! Growth hormone has a dividing or splitting effect on cells, and each time a cell splits it becomes new and VIOLA!.. you are now in a state of growth and regeneration. Here's the simpler Reader's Digest version of how your body actually produces GH.
